Free Doom Eternal demake mod

Eternal Suffering Mod is a demo game utility from DiegoSlayer12. This mod recreates the arsenal from the 2020 action game Doom Eternal, making the weapons available in the much older game engine of Doom II. Apart from the weapons, the Eternal conversion effort also applies to the heads-up display, giving a full demake experience for players.

To play the Eternal Suffering Mod, you will need Doom source ports such as LZDoom, ZDoom, or GZDoom. This also explains why the mod has better textures compared to the classic Doom II game, making it feel like an unofficial entry in the franchise.

The foundations of a full demake

With all its content, Eternal Suffering Mod is already considered a demake of the 2020 Doom entry. In gaming, demaking refers to recreating a modern game into an older version of itself. Here, you get to see iconic weapons and accessories from Eternal such as the BFG 9000 and the Unmaykr, all in their pixelated glory. As mentioned, the HUD also gets the same treatment, rounding up the experience.

In terms of coverage, the only weapon not included in this mod is the Sentinel Hammer, a melee weapon with an area of effect (AoE) skill. Beyond the weapon, this indie project also aims to bring the whole experience, with a custom campaign filled with a mix of Doom II enemies and those from Doom Eternal. Monsters such as the mancubus or hell soldiers make an appearance in this game.

Of course, the technical restrictions mean that not all base game features are included. This makes the campaign feel incomplete since the roster of enemies and the levels are not entirely converted yet. On the plus side, the developer also added a couple of mission objectives and side quests to make this quick ride a bit more enjoyable—finding secret items, discovering locations, or killing all monsters.

A good combination of two Doom games

With the ongoing recreation of materials from Doom Eternal into the Doom II engine, the Eternal Suffering Mod is a must-have for fans of the franchise. It makes an effort to faithfully recreate weapons, monsters, and sections of some levels to build a full demake experience. While there are lacking materials across all aspects, the fact that it runs with no game-crashing bugs is enough reason to check this out.
